Abstract
In this experimental study, the effect of steel fibre (SF) reinforcement on the fracture energy and crack propagation in notched beams is investigated by using digital image correlation (DIC) as well as acoustic emission (AE) techniques. The considered variable in this experimental programme is SF volume fractions of 0, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0%. Crack-arresting mechanism in fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC) beams was investigated at a few key points in load-CMOD response. From DIC it is observed that in the higher fibre volume fraction beams, the strain redistribution is more and crack propagation is minimum up to serviceability limit. Similarly, the AE hits classification is presented to understand the crack fracture mechanism. Both the DIC and AE study help in understanding the crack propagation on the surface as well as fracture process zone (FPZ) advancement through the SFRC beams.
