Abstract

The advancement in power electronics enhanced the use of multiphase induction machines (IM) in many industrial applications. Multiphase induction machines (IM) provide better performance and are more reliable compared to conventional 3-phase IMs. However, research is still in progress to improve the reliability of multiphase IM under the fault condition. This paper presents two different techniques, namely dodecagonal space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and hexagonal SVPWM, for the operation of the nine-phase IM under single-phase open-winding fault. The effectiveness of the proposed techniques is verified by using ANSYS FEM simulation and experimentation on laboratory prototype.
