Abstract
In reliastic approach, Mortar joints are considered to be the weakest elements of the unreinforced masonry.A constitutive interface model is proposed for the analysis of unreinforced masonry based on plasticity principles. Implementation is done in standard nite element package(Abaqus) by User-dened subroutine(UMAT). The hyperbolic composite Interface model consists of a single surface yield criterion, which is a direct extension of Mohr-columb criterion with tension cut and compression cap. The model is analysed under in-plane cyclic loading.A micromechanical based approach is adopted for failure modelling of the masonry. The proposed model is imple- mented by using two- dimensional plane-stress nite elements and cohesive elements. From the existing monotonic model, two new parameters are introduced to capture the non-linear unload- ing/reloading behaviour accurately. The motion of unloading surfaces is controlled by a mixed hardening law and by adopting appropriate evolution rules. The numerical implementation is based on Newton Raphson method, implicit Backward Euler integration strategy and consistent tangent stiness matrices.
