Abstract

Polymeric gels are gaining attention in the field of tissue engineering due to its structural resemblance to the macromolecular-based extracellular matrix components. Furthermore, they have huge potential to be used as an alternative to conventional invasive scaffold delivery. In addition, the biocompatibility of the existing hydrogels made them an attractive form of polymers for tissue engineering applications. In this chapter, we describe the key designing parameters that have to be considered and the application of different polymeric hydrogels in different areas of tissue engineering. The updated knowledge gathered from the existing literature including the latest formulation of extracellular matrix hydrogels give an overview of the applications of polymeric hydrogel in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
