Abstract

The essays in the book covered aspects of Tradition and Change. The aspect of tradition largely referred to illness etiologies, utilization of services of healers and other traditional health care service providers. Change is referred to the ‘changed logic’ and ‘conflicting logic’ to change. The themes selected for study are traditional, but what is apparent is that the effort to approach them is different. The book covers a range of topics and questions: How illness and suffering are seen as consequences of social disruptions? How decisions to seek cure from healers and sorcerers are seen as ‘rational’ and ‘appropriate’? How do we understand the politics of medicine? What are the determinants of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) models in Reproductive Child Health (RCH)? How to understand the community system of risk classification in anaemia? What matters in case of breast cancer in regard to body image?
