Abstract
Butenolides constitute a large and growing group among the natural products of current interest, notable for their wide occurrence among plant, marine , microbial sources and also display a wide range of bio logical activities. Among butenolides , we became more interested in a smaller sub - group which is endowed with an alkeny l substitution at 3 rd position and the prototypical of the members of this family 1 - 4 presented in Figure 1. Diversely embellished 3 - alkenyl butenolides also frequently encountered in nature either as wholesome entities or as a substructure in the more compl ex natural products and exhibit a wide range of biological activities...
