Abstract

This research focuses on the behavior of structures in a region when subjected to seismic waves. Vibration assessment of buildings at the regional level is necessary since it will aid in planning vibration mitigation strategies and risk assessment. The region under consideration for the study is located in Coast Mesa City, California. A realistic 3D model of the site is developed considering the existing structures with the help of software like ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD, and Cubit. The model is subjected to acceleration time-history records of the ground motions. Mastodon software is used for simulations, a finite element application aiming to analyze the response of 3-D soil-structure analysis. To understand the behavior of buildings under diverse situations parameters such as the layout of buildings, height, building density, and base thickness were varied, and analysis was performed. The results showed that the response of a clustered building is less dominating than that of a standalone building and that the amplitude of the building’s top acceleration response decreases as building density increases
