Abstract
A bending tests on gypsum sheathed cold-formed steel wall panel fabricated with Z section are presented in this paper. The parameters studied include four different CFS members, two sheathing thicknesses and two fastener spacings totaling to 16 two-sided sheathed panels were analyzed. In general, sheathings changes the buckling mode of the CFS member thereby influencing the improvement in flexural strength. The fastener spacing plays a major role in strength improvement. The sheathings with closer fastener spacing improve the composite action between the sheathing and structural member, while the larger spacings leading to pull through the failure of sheathings. The experimental results indicate that the efficacy of sheathing increases with the increase in global slenderness of CFS studs. The ultimate moment capacities and failure modes obtained from the numerical results are presented and compared with the experimental studies. In addition, the appropriateness of the adopted numerical model for sheathed CFS panel subjected to out of plane loading is verified.
