Abstract

A review of the literature on water boiling in less than 1 mm hydraulic diameter channel is presented in this paper. The effect of heat flux and mass flow rate on aspects such as flow regimes, pressure drop, heat transfer coefficient, instability, and critical heat flux presented by researchers is discussed in detail. The effect of channel cross-section and dissolved air on boiling is also presented briefly. Semi-analytical models of the flow such as annular flow model and two- and three-zone models are also included. Some broad conclusions and suggestions for future work are provided towards the end.
