Abstract
The invention presents a structure for noise attenuation with improved stiffness, that has a lower surface density and capable of providing superior damping properties and undergoing elastic deformation. The noise attenuation structure is provided with plurality of transverse channels attached to a membrane for diverting sound in transverse direction. The walls of the transverse channels are capable of undergoing elastic deformation and possess improved damping properties. The transverse channels can have varied wall thickness, varied diameters, different shapes and varied length so as to improve the absorption coefficient and transmission loss characteristics.
