Abstract

A mathematical framework to compute initial conditions of state variables is essential for accurate initialization of dynamic studies. This paper presents an approach for computing initial values of state variables in the dynamic model of a doubly fed induction machine (DFIM). Unlike existing approaches, the proposed approach is based on an accurate equivalent circuit of a DFIM. Time domain simulation results of a standalone DFIM configuration are presented to validate the proposed approach. In addition, the inaccuracy of initial conditions obtained using the existing equivalent circuit is demonstrated using small signal stability analysis of a DFIG.
