Abstract

In a country like India, with a rapid increase in urbanization, alternate materials with low embodied energy and structural systems which deliver high performance with less quantum usage are required to ensure a sustainable development of housing solutions while overcoming the problem of resource limitation. A precast integrated floor panel system is developed and tested. This innovative concept uses a stay in- place finish which is also a part of the structural load carrying system using locally available stone. The efficient use of stone and the resulting reduction in the weight translate into a 40% decrease in the dead load from self weight while decreasing the demand for energy intensive materials like steel and cement. A ready to use floor system is achieved with the potential of decreasing the embodied energy by 75%
