Abstract

Green energy is a major research area for researchers nowadays. Solar energy being of the major source is being explored to the fullest. Talking about India, due to the proximity to the equator abundant solar energy is available which can be efficiently harnessed. Also, development in the semiconductor industry and power converters have stimulated studies on efficiently utilising PV energy. PV panels generate low-level dc voltages and these are needed to be boosted and converted to alternating voltages. Also, as we cannot directly connect large PV into the utility grid due to their safety issue. Hence, a converter is required for interfacing a PV system to grid. Considering the drawbacks of the dual stage energy conversion topology such as high power losses, low efficiency and more complexity in control, researchers started working on single-stage conversion system. Initial single-stage conversion system employed simple voltage source converters. With the limitations associated, researchers explored different topologies in these converters. This thesis presents a novel single-stage topology of a switched inductor split source inverter. This proposed topology has higher voltage gain compared to that of conventional split source inverter while retaining all the advantages of the conventional circuit. The proposed circuit has reduced passive component count as compared to those of other impedance source topologies and lower current stress on inductors. Also, conventional PWM technique can be employed for the proposed inverter which reduces the complexity of the control. The proposed switched inductor split source inverter is implemented using MATLAB/Simulink for PV application. The analysis is carried out for different irradiation changes. And the prototype of switched inductor split source inverter is tested for 100W RL load system. And this topology is compared with existing ZSI, qZSI and SSI topologies in different aspects like voltage gain, passive component rating, number of components and efficiency
