Abstract
In this paper, an SRIM model with major electrical faults based on reference frame theory is presented. To model shorted turns, the model assumes that each stator/rotor phase winding has a different number of turns. The impact of the electrical fault on the signals of the motor including speed, electromagnetic torque, and stator currents are addressed. The obtained simulation results from the proposed analytical model are compared and validated with finite element simulations with satisfactory results. The proposed models can be successfully used to study the transient, steady state behavior of the slip-ring induction motors with critical electrical faults, and to test fault diagnostic algorithms operating in real-time.
