Abstract

Continued interest in investigating photoluminescence behavior of flavin and its analogues, is primarily driven by its role in biological systems as an important coenzyme for electron transportation and as photoreceptor. Investigations pertaining to natural analogues and the synthetic model systems has offered diversified applications ranging from catalysis, sensing, molecular switching/logics to name a few. Here in this report, we have synthesized and characterized (by proton NMR) a Flavin-Pyrene conjugate (chemical name: 10-(2-((pyren-1-ylmethyl)amino)ethyl)benzo[g]pteridine-2,4(3H,10H)-dione)) and investigated its photoluminescence behavior. Pyrene was chosen considering its intense absorption/ emission properties and long excited state lifetime. Preliminary absorption studies were performed in different solvents, which displays spectral bands typically assigned to flavin and pyrene entities. Emission spectra do suggest occurrence of energy/electron transfer process, however in-depth need to be performed to draw a conclusive argument
