Abstract

Binary is the language used by logic devices. Therefore, when magnetic materials need to be used for logic applications, we have a to figure out a way to represent magnetism as 0 and 1. One way is to engineer single domain nanomagnet with a preferred axis so that only two stable states would be possible. In this thesis I have obtained a single domain nanomagnet and nanowire and majority gate have been implemented. Another way to utilise nanomagnets for logics is by the dynamics of ferromagnets. When a magnetic material is perturbed by a very small field it can undergo oscillations with frequency depends on many factors. Using network of nanomagnets of shape induced anisotropy, different frequencies were obtained for different states. XOR gate was implemented by this method. Another way is to make use of skyrmions which are stablized spin textures which can behave like particle. Considering presence and absence of skyrmion as 1 and 0, logic gates may be implemented with skyrmions. In this thesis I have examined different parameters to stabilize a skyrmion.
