Abstract

This report presents the simulation results of experiments on wide-flange beams conducted by A.F.Lukey, R.J.Smith, M.U.Hosain and P.F.Adams (A.F.Lukey, R.J.Smith, M.U.Hosain and P.F.Adams, 1970). The specimens were of G40.12 steel, which has a minimum yield stress of 44 ksi (303.38 MPa). The objective of these studies is to validate the numerical simulation results done in ANSYS APDL with those of the experiments conducted by A.F.Lukey, R.J.Smith, M.U.Hosain and P.F.Adams (A.F.Lukey, R.J.Smith, M.U.Hosain and P.F.Adams, 1970). The primary objective is to run numerical simulations that can be useful to generate the idealised Moment Rotation results for High Strength Steel (HSS) of 550 MPa hot rolled Isections, then classify the sections, re-define the flange slenderness limits given in IS 800 : 2007 and simultaneously conduct a parametric study on the material properties of HSS
