Abstract
Performance evaluation of the SuperMAC - A cross standard, weighted MAC level packet combining algorithm using ns-3 and GNU Radio is presented in this work. LTE and WiFi are considered as the reference protocol standards to evaluate the performance in terms of Packet Delivery Ratios and Bit Error Rate. Further, a detailed discussion is presented on modeling SuperMAC in ns-3 and GNU Radio. It is shown that the SuperMAC, achieves combination gains, evaluated in the form of packet delivery ratios, even when diversity is applied on the bits/packets en route the MAC layer, rather than on the signal level. The SuperMAC algorithm is compared with the regular operation of LTE and WiFi networks and existing MAC level selection combining schemes like Meta-MAC. Finally, the challenges and constraints put forward by SuperMAC algorithm in real-time implementation, are discussed.
