Abstract
In the present study eect of angle of attack and shock induced ow separation control over a scramjet inlet is carried out using Hybrid RANS /LES technique. Hybrid RANS /LES is an approach that solves standard RANS turbulence models near to surface with a transition to LES occurring away from the surface making an advantage of lower computational cost compared to LES approach and maintain good numerical accuracy. The governing equation is solved using nite volume approach using opensource software OpenFoam using compressible computational uid dynamic (CFD) solver rhoCentralFoam. The rhoCentralFoam solver is validated with experimental data for supersonic backward facing step problem and hypersonic scramjet inlet ow. Major objective of the thesis is to carry out detailed ow analysis of angle of attack on various performance parameters of scramjet inlet and ow separation control of shock induced boundary layer separation using bump projection technique and compare the results with variation of cowl-lip angle and air-bleed ow separation control. Results shows the variation of scramjet inlet performace parameters like total pressure recovery (TPR), ow mach number, static pressure, static temperature and spillage loss variation with angle of attack for both on-design and o design conditions has been reported. Its has been observed that the bump projection technique completely suppresses the separation bubble and changes the total pressure recovery of 0.1922 to 0.679 causing increase of 253.27% in TPR and ow spillage got reduced from 64.38% to 24.37% causing reduction of 62.14% of initial spillage loss causing overall increase in performance of the inlet. The Present results are matching well with the experimental results available in the literature.
