Abstract

The onset of convective rolls instability in a horizontal porous layer subject to a basic temperature gradient inclined with respect to gravity is investigated. The basic velocity has a linear pro�le with a non vanishing mass ow rate i.e, it is the superposition of Hadley type ow and a uniform ow.The in uence of the viscous heating contribution on the critical conditions for the onset of instability is assessed.The linear stability is performed with reference either to the transverse or longitudna roll disturbances.It is shown that generally the longitudnal rolls represent the preferred mode of stability. vi
