Abstract

Impact between two structures is a well known phenomenon in industries and not so well from a theoretical point of view. Here we are doing some research on acoustic radiation due to inelastic impact of a sphere with a rectangular simply supported thin plate. Hertz’s law is used to calculate the impact force, which has been extended to the case of plastic deformations, Rayleigh’s integral is used to obtain the acoustic radiation in time domain the plate being discretized in rectangular elements. The model is used to show that the sound-radiation mechanism includes two separate sources;the initial deformation of the plate and the propagation of bending waves. Acoustic radiation force is a phenomenon associated with the propagation of acoustic waves in attenuating media. Attenuation includes both scattering and absorption of the acoustic wave.
