Abstract

There are many diseases related to spine like Pott’s disease, damage to vertebral body due to accidents etc. Once damaged the defected part is very difficult to treat. But Tissue Engineering and Bio 3 - d printing combined together gives us an alternative to replace the defected part with our bio 3 - d printed model which can completely mimic the functions and anatomical complexity of the tissue. We, in our research, are focusing on bio 3 - d printing of a part of defected vertebra to enhance the current treatments related to spine defects. Firstly, a CAD model resembling the defected part was prepared using a CAD software. This was printed with Alginate/Gelatin as hydr o gel with cells encapsulated within it. After printing it was analyzed for FDA/PI, Pico - Green and bone differentiation. A nice porous scaffold along with cells was successfully printed by us, which showed high cell survival rate up to 4 weeks. The most in teresting point of our research is that the cells were viable in the scaffold and also showed osteo - differentiation. . Moreover, we are not using the conventional technique in which the scaffold is first prepared and then the cells are seeded. The cells ar e already encapsulated within the hydro gel which results in uniform distribution of cells within the entire scaffold.
