Abstract

There has been an ever increasing interest in sensors that are cheap, potable, reusable without any extra cost of pre - requisites for its multiple use. Nano scale sensors are a pragmatic solution for having a highly sensitive and robust system of sensing. Gas sensing, where the use of such sensors prove to be an impetus to research and development of alternate fuels and systems for safety example includes ammonia sensor. It has been known that carbon is known to absorb ammonia gas and the ensuing electrical changes in the bulk of carbon. The paper proposes to leverage this property of carbon to develop a highly sensitive ammonia sensor. The approach to the objective adopted included ensuring the formation of an effective film on the silicon wafer and optimization to make the film amorphous and adhesive. The paper ends with conclusions based on the percentage change in the capacitance measurement. The outcome proves experimentally that the carbon based dielectric capacitive sensor device can be used for a practical, sturdy and c heap ammonia gas sensing system .
