Abstract

6 Abstract Objective of Long Term Evolution (LTE) is to achieve higher data rates, higher bandwidth, Low latency, improved network responsiveness whereas objective of Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB - IOT) is to achieve extended coverage, to support massive number o f devices and long battery life. NB - IoT does not require low latency and higher bandwidth for functioning. These differences make lot of changes in LTE and NB - IoT protocols and procedures. Protocol stack of LTE and NB - IoT has same architecture and data f low. NB - IoT protocol stack layers and channels have some resemblance with LTE protocol stack layers and channels. LTE and NB - IOT logical channels and transport channels are being introduced and their general picture of mapping is shown and explained. In NB - IoT, when Broadcast control channel (BCCH) is mapped to Broadcast Channel (BCH), it transfers Master Information Block (MIB) to Physical layer. Master Information block contains many sets of information elements (IEs). Each IE is explained briefly. In NB - IoT, when Broadcast control channel (BCCH) is mapped to Downlink Shared Channel (DL - SCH), it transfers System Information Blocks (SIB) to Physical layer. Among all, SIB1 contains important details of channel as well as scheduling information of oth er SIBs. Decoding of SIB1 is must to get the further information about the channel and make a dedicated connection. System Information block type1 contains various sets of information elements (IEs). Each IE is explained briefly.
