Abstract

The duration of an individual’s activities (such as hours spent on eating, sleeping, traveling, playing, cooking, resting, working in office, school, college or home and alike) along with its environment plays a crucial role governing exposure to various pollutants. In India, no study on activity patterns of urban population has been conducted yet. Only very few studies have been conducted on rural population) for specific groups like mothers and specific age groups in Pune and Kerala, respectively. In Pune, the relation of maternal activity (low, medium, high) in relation to the birth size of her neonate was studied. While in Kerala, the activity levels (low, moderate, high) of subjects within the ages of 15 to 65 years was taken up to study its relation to cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. The presented study focuses on general activity patterns of all age groups from <1 year to 80 years on normal weekdays. Also, along with the varying hourly activity patterns, I have tried to encompass the respective locations of each activity performed by the volunteers like sleeping, getting ready, eating, travelling, working (schools/colleges/offices), doing household work, taking care of kid, reading newspaper, playing, resting, cooking and watching television.
