Abstract

n to day's network, network op erator uses different middleb oxes to achieve performance and security challenges in the network. Some of the commonly used examples are NAT to solve IPv4 address depletion and firewall to deal the security attacks. These middleb oxes comes with new challenges. Service chaining is one of the challenges, where a sequence of middleb oxes apply their service to particular traffic. Due to the lack of available protocols to route traffic through middle boxes, operators still rely on error prone and complex low-level configurations to steer the traffic through the desired sequence of middle boxes. With recent software defined networking (SDN) architecture and Open Flow protocol, it is possible to steer the traffic through any sequence of middle boxes.
