Abstract
this thesis focuses on the performance of open loop spatial multiplexing (SM) that does not require channel state information (CSI) at the base station (BS). We considered homogeneous cellular network in which users employ linear equalizers, namely partial zero forcing (PZF) and minimum mean square error estimation (MMSE) equalizer. This dissertation gives the exact distribution of the post-processing SINR (signalto- interference-plus-noise-ratio) of a typical user for both MMSE and PZF receivers. For the case of PZF receivers, we determined the optimal configuration of receive antennas that provides a balance between interference cancellation and signal enhancement. For the MMSE receiver, we characterized the SINR (or capacity) distribution that serves as an upper bound on the performance of linear receivers.
