Abstract

The socio-economic development of any developing area is highly influenced by the road network which is available and connected to the urban cities. Roads are one of the primary infrastructures of any developing nation. The Government of India is envisioning building road networks of about 35,000 km long within the next 5 years by investments worth $60 billion. In addition, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana(PMGSY) – a prime minister's rural road program targets to upgrade 50,000 km of existing rural roads which are in poor condition, estimated to cost around Rs. 47,000 crore ($ 7.8 million)(PMGSY 2012).
