Abstract

Centerline stiffened plates with eccentric compression is common in civil engineering structures. A detailed study is required in the post buckling behavior and stress distribution of centerline stiffened flat plate. For the effective utilization of plate material the post buckling behavior of the eccentrically compressed plate need to be studied in detail. As an initial phase a detailed study on post buckling behavior of flat plates simply supported on all four edges is completed which was done by A.C Walker (1967). A rectangular plate with centerline rotational restraint is considered in stage 2 of the work. An approximate solution for Von Karman equation for post buckling region of an initially flat rectangular plate subjected to non-uniform in plane axial compression is found out using Galerkin’s method. The centerline of the plate is rotationally restraint.
