Abstract

A Detailed study of biogas dry reforming is carried out. Model biogas is subjected to catalytic dry reforming over supported Ni catalyst of Ni/Alumina pellets having 15% nickel loading. The catalyst is loaded in powdered form in a fixed bed reactor and reaction is carried out at different temperatures of 600◦C, 700◦C, 800◦C. At these temperatures, due to the presence of carbon component in the reactants and absence of H2O, the catalyst undergoes carbon fouling or coking. This carbon fouling is studied for each of these temperatures where ratios of CH4/CO2 used are 2, 1.75, 1.5, 1.25, 1 respectively. Mole fractions and mass fraction profiles for H2, CO 2, CO, CH 4 are obtained for each temperature for all the ratios. CO yield and H2 yeild is obtained for each temperature for all the ratios, along with CO2 and CH4 conversions. XRD, BET, pulse chemisoption is performed for characterization of the catalyst.
