Abstract

Multi-perforate lined chambers are extensively used in aerospace and automotive industries to reduce the noise. Their acoustic performance is expressed in terms of the absorption coefficient or transmission loss. The present paper discusses a Green's function based analytical method that has been developed to predict the absorption coefficient of multi-perforate lined chamber in the absence of flow without solving the complex transcendental equation. The Green's function of the chamber is developed as the summation of eigenfunctions of the central perforated pipe. The cumulative effect of perforated liners and the annular gap between them is incorporated in the eigenfunctions as a reflection coefficient. Using the piston analogy approach and Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral equation, velocity potential generated in the central pipe is evaluated. A transfer matrix is formulated using the superposition principle to relate the average acoustic pressure and volume velocity at the inlet port to that of the outlet port. From the transfer matrix, a scattering matrix is obtained to calculate the absorption coefficient of the chamber. The results from the proposed method are compared to that of the finite element models, and good agreement is observed. A study has been conducted to investigate the effect of various perforate impedance models on the acoustic performance of the chamber. © "Advances in Acoustics, Noise and Vibration - 2021" Proceedings of the 27th International Congress on Sound and Vibration, ICSV 2021.
